Nestled in downtown Stanardsville, VA, The Standard offers
traditional food inspired by the tastes of the community. Drawing from a
lifelong love of “buying fresh, buying local,” chef and owner Matt
O’Varanese prides his food on the fact that it is made using only the freshest
and purist ingredients available.
A learned mind in all things “green,” O’Varanese studied at
the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont before moving to Virginia and
settling with his wife Katie, daughter Serena and son Kenai.
Passionate about the joy, pleasure, and true culture one
can derive from the many facets of food and meal, he began his search for a
location that would allow him to cook for – and become immersed in the
camaraderie of – a smaller, tight-knit community.
Encouraged by the history and charm of the town, the
integrity and character of the locals, and the opportunity to implement his
mission of providing food of local inspiration, O’Varanese and his family are
